Croon through a catalog of popular songs at Wanna Be GLEE! camp, where performers reinvent the art of high-school note-passing with songs, friendship, and dance moves. The camp concludes with a world-premiere screening that soars with more four-part harmonies than a 1992 pop chart. The Shake-a-Speare camp looks at the famed bard's work, letting thespians explore Renaissance theater and engage in basic stage combat while reciting language from popular, timeless plays. All students will perform an original show on the final day for grandparents, parents, and lingering imaginary friends. Mini artistic visionaries can craft masks inspired by European carnival and Cirque du Soleil during the MASKerade camp. Feathers, glue, and paint help conjure up imaginary characters brought to life through interpretative-dance performances and pantomimed love letters.
Austin Children Theater's summer camps boast a student-to-teacher ratio of 15:1 for an intimate, on-stage learning experience. Each camp includes a final showcase on its respective Friday at 4 p.m. to bolster performance abilities of future Tony Award winners while ensuring inspirational fodder for acceptance speeches.
