What You'll Get
After birthing a child, many mothers go to extremes to get back into shape, such as power-lifting diapers filled with rocks and running while pushing strollers filled with diapers filled with rocks. Safely shape post-baby bodies with today’s Groupon: for $50, you get a 10-class pass at Stroller Strides, a fitness program for new mothers (a $110 value). Moms can work out one of four Austin-area Stroller Strides locations.
Getting in shape after giving birth can be difficult; taking care of the baby takes a lot of time and leaves bodies weary and sapped of energy. Stroller Strides understands these common struggles and has designed an exercise regimen with new mothers in mind. All you need to get started is you, your baby, and a stroller. The classes, taught by specially trained instructors, usually take place outdoors and consist of a warm-up, a buggy-bandying power walk, and interval stations where participants do a variety of body-toning exercises. Instructors provide everyone with exercise tubing and, in the event of a fussy-baby episode, will show you exercises you can do with your baby. Classes are appropriate for children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old.
In addition to providing a fun exercise regimen that takes babies into consideration, Stroller Strides is a venue for new mothers to interact and socialize. Commiserate over shared difficulties and take joy in each other's successes. A positive environment that encourages return visits is a key factor in sticking to a physical-fitness routine. Surrounded by friendly instructors, mom peers, and a teeming hoard of adorable babies, a Stroller Strides class creates a positive, encouraging environment for re-obtaining a pre-baby physique.
New mothers should get a doctor's permission before beginning any exercise program.
Though Stroller Strides of Austin has yet to receive many online reviews, other locations of Stroller Strides have been featured in multiple publications, including Lake Norman Magazine and the Greater Annapolis Patch:
- Stroller Strides was not around for me when I had my first child. Sixteen years later, standing next to the son who is now a full foot taller than I am, I recognized this program as something that could have made my life so much easier. – Ann Brennan, Greater Annapolis Patch
- With Stroller Strides, moms incorporate their strollers and babies right into the workout – whether it’s power walking or body-toning moves. – Todd Sumlin, Lake Norman Magazine
