Learning begins in childhood, when parents begin teaching how to make financial decisions and determine a baseball player's batting average on federal holidays. Feed hungry kid-minds with today's Groupon, which gets you children's art experiences at Averyboo Arts in Long Beach. Choose from two options:
- For $10, you get two hours of open studio time (a $20 value; open studio time can be used in one visit or in two hourlong sessions).
- For $112, you get a two-hour weekend birthday party for up to 10 children (a $225 value; a $10 fee will be incurred for each additional child).
Parental supervision is required for both options; for parties, at least one parent must be present for every four children.
At Averyboo Arts, kids can develop creative skills in a studio stocked with art supplies. During two hours of open-studio time, young artists from 18 months to nine years old can work at a variety of stations, such as easels, craft tables, and a special area for crafting fine wall drawings. Unlimited access to materials is included in the studio session, although a separate selection of "paint and take" items––such as wooden toys and canvases––are also available in the gift shop for purchase.
Open studio sessions can also be transformed into a birthday party bash for 10 children on Saturdays or Sundays (11 a.m.–1 p.m. or 3 p.m.–5 p.m.). As kid-friendly tunes fill the atmosphere with furious guitar solos, partygoers can enjoy a normal open-studio session, plus whatever cakes and birthday paraphernalia the parents bring along. A special gift will be included for the birthday boy or girl, and a staff member from Averyboo will be present to help organize the party and manage cleanup efforts using traditional military tactics.
Averyboo Arts caters to adults (who always get in free) by offering them reading materials, free WiFi, and complimentary thirst destroyers. Kids get to take home whatever wonders they work in the studio, which Nickelodeon's Parents Connect recently picked as the Best Kids' Party Place in the Los Angeles area. Call ahead to make reservations for open studio time or a birthday party (as far in advance as possible).
Parties limited to 16 children or a total of 30 people, including adults. A $10 charge will be incurred for every 10 minutes past the scheduled party end time.
- If you’ve never been there, stop in and see for yourself! It’s a fantastic place to spend some creative time. The space is very inspiring and well stocked…there is something interesting to see everywhere you look. – Kelli Johnson, Corridor Voices
