It was a great experience. We gave it as a gift, and the recipient loved it. The people at ATRC worked with us to get the experience scheduled past the expiration date.

I found Ray Heyde, the President & Founder, to be very capable, professional and easy to work with in providing me simulator training. The simulators provide a lot of capability and flexibility, and are certainly a lot less expensive when getting up-to-speed than flying the "real thing". Learning the newer "glass cockpit" technologies and features here versus in an actual aircraft would probably save me hundreds, if not thousands. I was impressed and would definitely use Ray and ATRC again. And no, I don’t work there.

The owner is friendly and knowledgable. He was also very flexible with allowing us to use our groupon coupon even though it was past the expiration date. We purchased the flight sim experience for our 16 year old son's birthday gift and he loved it.

What You'll Get

Flight simulators replicate the effects of steering a plane, whereas getting yelled at by a stranger replicates the effect of eating someone’s bag of peanuts while they sleep. Steer clear of danger with today's Groupon: for $60, you get a one-hour flight-simulator experience (up to a $162 value) from Aviation Training & Resource Center in Carrollton.

Aviation Training & Resource center's FAA-approved Redbird FMX 1000 flight-simulator steers practiced pilots and novice flyers alike through every flight scenario imaginable with intensely realistic accuracy. Virtual pilots can opt to train with a professional instructor or fly a lone-wolf mission in any one of the four full-motion cockpit configurations, including a Cessna 172 with a Garmin G-1000 glass panel, a Cirrus SR-22 with an Avidyne panel and Garmin 430, or a multi-engine with parachute pants for wings. The simulator's database contains all public-use airports in the lower 48 states, 200 degrees of wraparound visuals, as well as a satellite-quality layout of 8,000 square miles of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, allowing guests to wave at their own house from above or pointedly ignore their neighbors from above. In addition to providing a realistic airborne experience, the FAA allows hours in the simulator with a certified flight instructor to count toward pilot certification or a fighter-pilot merit badge.
