Despite the thousands of tons of surplus food that goes to waste in landfills, many Portland-area residents continue to struggle to find enough to eat. Nearly four million emergency meals fed hungry Oregonians last year, but the immense cost and challenge of transportation means food-assistance programs often have difficulty bridging the gap between surplus food and hungry people. Local transportation and logistics company B-Line: Sustainable Urban Delivery helps feed the community by conveying surplus food to charitable food centers while maintaining environmentally sustainable standards.
B-Line’s food sharing campaign B-shares partners with local grocers, restaurants, and farmers' markets to alleviate hunger. Throughout their daily delivery routes, the company's drivers pick up surplus food from partners such as Whole Foods Market, Dave's Killer Bread, and the People's Coop Farmer's Market and drop it off at nonprofit food-assistance agencies for distribution to hungry families. The program brings healthy, local, and organic food to people while simultaneously reducing waste and lowering the community's carbon footprint by transporting the donations in zero-emission cargo vehicles. Since its launch in July 2010, B-shares has distributed more than 18,000 freshly prepared meals to urban food programs at such local partners as Sisters Of The Road, Blanchet House, and St. Francis Dining Hall.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help B-Line reduce waste and fill plates with surplus food. If G-Team members raise $1,000, B-Line can pick up and deliver 2,000 additional meals to urban food-assistance programs. Each additional $10 raised will contribute to feeding more hungry people. In addition, if G-Team members raise $1,000, those who register their vouchers will also be entered in a raffle on April 21 for a $100 gift card to Whole Foods Market.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
