About Babalu Cuban Cafe
Along with his partner Patricia Matos, Raul Vicente Jr. pays homage to both his Cuban background and famous 1950s TV couple Lucy and Ricky Ricardo with Babalu Cuban Cafe. I Love Lucy posters adorn the Fort Lee eatery's walls, and Cuban-style hats dangle from its windows. And the menu of classic Cuban favorites complements the decor. Read on to learn about a few standout items:
- Cubano sandwich: This hot, pressed Cuban sandwich is the restaurant's specialty. To make it, chefs marinate thin slices of roast pork in Babalu's special mojo sauce, then pile ham, swiss cheese, and sweet pickles on cuban bread.
- Lechon asado platter: Chefs marinate pork in citrus juices, Cuban spices, and garlic, and then slow roast it for several hours. They pair the pork with fried sweet plantains and moro or white rice with black beans.
- Tres leches: Desserts include bites of this light, sweet sponge cake that chefs drench in evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream.
