A Chat with Babcock Studios
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
I have that rare combination of extensive on-screen experience and acting fundamentals. From primetime shows, day-time drama to features. Often acting coaches are by-products of theory without the understanding of what the actor faces each and every time they walk onto a stage, set or audition room.
Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
Every actor will be given a copy of their scene in advance. As well, once scenes are determined 'camera-ready' they will receive a copy of that scene in order to watch and learn from privately. Actors are only expected to provide small props and details laid out by the circumstance of the scene.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
After teaching undergrads at university and then privately for a successful studio, I have been evolving my vision with over 20 years of professional experience. My main preoccupation in life is translating observations and experiences into a process for actors. My studio is an expression of that.
What do you love most about your job?
That regardless of age or experience each and every person brings a valuable lesson to every class. Everyone's approach to acting is completely unique since it always comes from them. When I start to interact with that process I always learn something new about them, myself and how we learn.
