Back to the Future

It’s the cinematic masterpiece that taught a generation of moviegoers some very valuable life lessons. For starters: if you travel back in time and meet your parents, don’t spoil your chances of existence by being as cute as Michael J. Fox. For those who missed the Robert Zemeckis blockbuster that spawned two sequels and a national love affair with the DeLorean, the Count Basie Theater sets the clock back to 1985, and then 1955, to give audiences the chance to see it on the big screen again.

Thrill as Marty confuses the people of the ’50s with his hip ’80s slang (“whoa, this is heavy!”), sing along as he invents Chuck Berry’s act, and cheer as his dad finally stands up to Biff. For bonus points, longtime fans can impress their friends or depress their dates with trivia tidbits, such as sharing the fact that Eric Stoltz almost played the role of Marty before deciding he was miscast.

Count Basie Theatre

Upon entering the Count Basie Theatre, guests may feel as though they’ve slipped through a crack in time and ended up in the early 1900s. Opulent marble staircases and gold details grab the eyes of visitors, recalling the decadence of Hollywood’s history and gently pulling them to the auditorium. There, the acoustically pleasing construction wins out as sound spreads and funnels through a sunburst dome embellished with a dangling chandelier. Since opening in 1926, the Count Basie has earned numerous accolades, including a nod from Pollstar magazine, which listed it as one of the Top 100 Worldwide Theatre Venues.
