Running was popular in Europe long before it caught on in America, which is why most races are measured in kilometers instead of miles and why most of the Pilgrims were eaten by bears. Race to the top of the food chain with today's Groupon: for $60, you get race registration for two to the Rockaway Beach Challenge plus work-out sessions from the time of purchase until the race from Bad Ass Academy (up to a $125 value). The Rockaway Beach Challenge will be held on Saturday, September 10 at 8 a.m.
Bad Ass Academy's encouraging trainers help prepare athletes of all skill levels to unleash themselves on the Rockaway Beach Challenge aimed to test both minds and bodies. Racing pairs can attend the Bay Ridge Bad Ass Challenge workouts, held in Brooklyn, to begin testing their mettle, instilling a never-quit attitude by joining in on sweat-manufacturing exercises that include sprints and hula-hooping to The Song That Never Ends. Once soft physiques have been transformed into solid granite, participants pair up to tag team the Rockaway Beach Challenge, a 5-mile race that requires them to run side-by-side, completing mystery events and trumping physically taxing obstacles.
After completing the course, which is designed to encourage teamwork, competitors are met at the finish line with complimentary eats, beverages, and live musical entertainment. While breaking bread with fellow participants, runners can congratulate each other with friendly handshakes and mutual calf massages.
