Running a marathon at an iambic pace doesn’t count as a dose of Shakespeare. Today’s Groupon gives five chances to catch a theatrical double dose of the bard with Bag and Baggage’s dual production of Taming of the Shrew and The Woman’s Prize at the Venetian Theatre in Hillsboro for $11 (an $23 value on Sunday and $20 value on Thursday). Prove your mastery of the English language through live entertainment presented in subtitle-free English.

Bag and Baggage Productions is committed to realizing the verve waiting in the words of some prolific works. The joint telling of a play and its sequel in Taming of the Shrew and The Woman’s Prize is a new theatrical endeavor that follows the courtship manipulations of Petruchio and the broken-down Kate, who has the final word by the time the whole affair is through. Artistic Director Scott Palmer adapted the pieces into one show and has the same cast playing matching roles in each story. As you ride the waves of 16th-century misogyny and proto-feminism, you’ll be reminded how stable your own relationship has become after years of only dating every third week in February.

Live theater is the perfect opportunity to bring your family and friends out to a visual and auditory feast, and the Venetian Theatre is the perfect venue. During intermission, you can check out the bistro-style restaurant and bar in order to properly fuel your body for the second half of the show.

Reviews

Many publications wax lyrical about Bag and Baggage’s performances. The Oregonian offers this rave review of its rendition of Comedy of Errors, saying: > * Rather than standing around declaiming in the usual Shakespeare-play fashion that these characters are kinetic creatures, they skip, twirl, pose, and mug, either alone or in well-choreographed groups, and all at top speed. – Carol Wells, Oregonian

Facebook fanatics applaud Bag & Baggage’s past productions, saying: > * We were delighted and entertained from the beginning to the end! – Michele Haynes Horn
