Baked in Kansas City
Naturally, you'd expect a place called Baked in Kansas City to boast a tremendous lineup of fine breads and pastries. And the eatery delivers on its name. Baking ovens turn out breads such as a tangy garlic manchego with olive oil, roasted garlic, and manchego cheese; a rustic oval loaf of country bread made with all-organic white flour and a touch of wheat; and a classic pan loaf of egg-and-butter brioche. Dessert aficionados can tear into such pastries as almond croissants, lemon-meringue tarts, panna cotta, and coffee cakes.
Nor does Baked in Kansas City limit itself to baked goods. Helmed by Frank Sebree of The Majestic Restaurant, it offers a Eurocentric counterpoint to its sister kitchen's lineup of all-American steaks. For lunch, try the duck panini, which brims with duck confit and prosciutto, pickled onions, and stone-ground mustard. Dinner options include steak au poivre and the half-roasted rosemary chicken.
