$10 for Winery Tour and Tasting for Two (a $20 Value)

Oenophiles lead groups of up to 30 patrons on a tour of a 150-year-old estate winery and pass out samples of five of the vineyard's wines.

Baker-Bird Winery is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1–5 p.m.

Baker-Bird Winery

When the sun sets on the Baker-Bird Winery, and its proprietors depart, the sturdy stone walls come to life, whispering stories across the expansive space. They rehash the 150-year history of the estate winery, which sheltered soldiers during a key Civil War battle. Their tales outline the German immigration, which brought those wishing to cultivate a new life to the region to work the rich Kentucky soil. Then the sun rises, and the walls close their stony eyes, allowing the winery's history to speak for itself through guided tours and tastings of diverse wines such as vidal blanc, southern julep, and dry cabernet franc.

In the warm afternoon, groups wander amid framed historical photographs, documents, and wooden cabinets lined with wines, artisanal cheeses from Kentucky, and exotic chocolates. Because all proceeds from the sale of the wine goes to restoring the historic estate and supporting Kentucky farm families, visitors can feel that they’ve done a good deed without rescuing a cat from a tree and taking it to see the ocean for the first time.

Customer Reviews

The owner was very nice and made sure you felt welcomed and that you knew she appreciated your business. The tour was a nice bit of history, the cheese tray needs to be a little better but the highlight was the Black Barrel Wine.

Such a fun afternoon trip!

Go when the weather is not real hot. The wine tasting is in a barn outside and can get a warm in the heat of the day. Other than that it is a great place.
