What You'll Get

A ballerina's graceful balance is inspiring to aspiring dancers, captivating to houses of cards, and vexing to bulldozers razing cliffside condor habitats. Dwell on adroit appendages with today's Groupon, which gets you a ticket to a Ballet Magnificat! performance of A Christmas Dream at Thalia Mara Hall. Choose one of the following Groupons:

  • For $12, you get a front orchestra seat on Friday, December 17, 2010, at 7 p.m. (a $25 value).
  • For $10, you get a mid-orchestra seat on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 3 p.m. (a $20 value).

Recently featured in the Washington Post, Ballet Magnificat! became the first Christian-based professional ballet company in the nation when it was established in the mid-1980s by award-winning dancer Kathy Thibodeaux. With this deal, ballet fans can get a up-close view to watch Thibodeaux and others perform in this year's performance, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Christmas production in Jackson. More than 150 other dancers and 300 different costumes will be a part of A Christmas Dream, which will depict a spectacular battle between a grand multitude of angels and fly-like creatures set to the music of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. Enjoy the rich acoustics and intimate views inside Thalia Mara Hall, an ideal setting for ballets or ballet-inspired monster-truck rallies. Following the show, guests are invited to drop by the after-parties for cookies, book-signings, and conversations with some of their favorite twirlers.

Reviews

The Washington Post, as well as a number of other press outlets, praises Ballet Magnificat!:

  • These dancers have the kind of lit-from-within presence rarely seen outside the premier companies, and even there the radiant projection of feeling can be spotty. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's Renee Robinson and the Mariinsky Theatre ballerina Diana Vishneva come to mind; is it a coincidence that these artists have also claimed their dancing has a spiritual dimension? – Sarah Kaufman, Washington Post
