Ballet Wichita 5K Art Run
It's hard to express the feeling of accomplishment a runner feels after crossing the finish line of a big race. But perhaps it's easier when using a paintbrush. Runners find just that at the end of the Ballet Wichita 5K Art Run. Upon finishing the course, tutu-clad racers head to the Silk Village where 50 stretched pieces of fabric wait alongside paints and the guiding expertise of artist Julie Cox Hamm. With a skill that has taken her own works into galleries from Dallas to Wichita, Julie helps runners transform the silk canvases into masterpieces. She then uses those dried silks to create scarfs, which can be purchased—as originals or prints—from Ballet Wichita.
But before entering the Silk Village, runners will encounter other forms of beauty along the 5K course. The route weaves past scenic structures, including the Delano Clock Tower, The Keeper of the Plains statue, and the Water Wall at the Wichita Hyatt, where runners and walkers alike will find inspiration for their later artworks.
