What You'll Get
To make un-fine wine, simply place grapes beneath a silk pillow, repeatedly mash your head against it, and then wring the pillowcase into a nearby mouth. Taste traditionally produced fine wines with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of light comfort fare and wine at Ballou's Wine Bar in Guilford.
Focusing on the three most important food groups—chocolate, wine, and coffee—Ballou's Wine Bar's robust menu also houses a number of paninis, salads, and fondue options. Pair the Nutella and banana panini ($6 for a half, $9 for a full) with a glass of Pink Truck, a wine dappled with hints of strawberry and sweetness ($6). Ideal for sharing, the fruit-and-cheese plate comes crowned with apples, turkish figs, italian table cheese, and water crackers ($15), and hits it off with a glass of the locally made Di Grazia Autumn Spice, swirling with notes of pumpkin and honey ($10). Pastas such as Ballou's mac & cheese—gussied up with bacon, crafted with cheddar cheese, and topped by a crunch topping —also populate the menu ($12). Listen to live music under the sweet scent of the summer sun, enjoy edibles on the quaint eatery's patio.

About Ballou’s Restaurant & Wine Bar
Ballou’s Restaurant & Wine Bar revolves around three prized delicacies: chocolate, wine, and coffee. From those staples, dozens of indulgent dishes ensue, including chocolate, Nutella, and peanut-butter-chocolate fondues and homemade truffles developed by Debbie, half of the husband-and-wife team that runs Ballou’s. Her chocolate fondue and homemade truffles are so deliciously decadent that they’ve earned the wine bar a spot on the Best of New Haven Reader’s Poll list for best desserts. But the wine bar also offers a diverse menu beyond desserts—patrons can indulge in hearty sandwiches, flat breads, and pastas dressed in sauces made from San Marzano tomatoes, all while sipping on wines from local and international vineyards.
