Since debuting as a humble storefront café in 1983, Bar Italia Ristorante has expanded its menu to include fresh Italian seafood entrees and bountiful plates of pasta and salad. The diverse dinner menu features items such as petto di pollo agro dolce, a veritable savory soiree in which citrus-clove-mint-marinated chicken breast mingles with sautéed mushrooms, red onion, bell pepper, raisins, sultanas, and pignoili in a balsamic reduction ($17.95), and meat-filled tortellini alla panna in a light cream sauce with mushrooms, peas, and prosciutto ($13.95). Bar Italia’s extensive wine list uncovers precious liquid gems such as a 2000 Principi di Butera chardonnay ($42/bottle) and a rare Californian wine made from fermented pages of The Grapes of Wrath.

Bar Italia’s elegant environs surround visitors in a wood-laden interior bathing in the light of dim lamps and flickering candles, creating a relaxing setting for friends and families. During warmer months, an expansive outdoor patio with a full bar and outdoor grill entertains eaters like a court jester juggling high-definition TVs.

In 1983, Bar Italia opened as a tiny café dishing up gelato and drinks just east of Euclid Avenue. Today, it's a multilevel Italian restaurant just west of Euclid Avenue. It hasn't moved very far, but now its chefs toss pasta with seafood, season and grill Black Angus steaks, and flame pork tenderloin with brandy before finishing it in a light cream sauce. They also whip up vegan and gluten-free plates, and they still serve housemade gelato created with all-natural ingredients.

Diners can order wine by the glass, bottle, or bathtub to enjoy in the dining room, by the bar, or outside on the sidewalk area, which is pet friendly. Inside the eatery’s entertainment venue, Luna Lounge white leather couches bask in the glow of colored mood lighting and flickering candles. On Thursday nights, global tunes from the DJ pump through the sound system.
