What You'll Get
Ever since Thomas Aquinas accidentally discovered writing in 1955, printing presses have been churning out a noisy barrage of books that can only be contained by frequent burnings. Pore over the useless chatter of humanity with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of new and used books from Bards Books, located in the Midtown neighborhood.
Bards Books is a full-service, independently owned bookstore that buys, sells, and trades all manner of literature. Take a leisurely pass through thousands of new and used codices, whose knowledge-filled leaflets are carefully stowed away in the shop’s towering stacks. Both beginning readers and advanced philologists will discover a bibliocopia of interesting volumes, which range in subject from history and biography to spirituality, cooking, and philosophy. Search for a copy of The Berenstain Bears: Lost in a Cave and reminisce about the numerous cave bears that populated your childhood, or find out what Camus had to say about blind dates in The Stranger. Although many of the store’s selections are priced from $4 to $10, children’s books and paperbacks are often under $4, and larger editions and collectible quires clock in at $15 and up.
Named 2009’s Best New Bookstore by Phoenix magazine, Bards Books is operated by dedicated book connoisseurs and furnishes its library of writs with colorful rugs, potted plants, and sofas and chairs that comfortably seat readers bound by a book’s powerful trance. Customers with severe book lust can purchase multiple Groupons to satisfy their longing for written communication. Bring your old books in for store credit, settle back in a cozy corner, and embark upon a journey to a whole new world that doesn’t depend on untrustworthy hyper-drives or magical closets full of questionably motivated wizards.
