Though it's a good way to connect with others and a fundamental part of living near train tracks, pouring one’s heart out to strangers is an unsustainable career. Learn a more employable pour with today’s Groupon: for $49, you get a three-hour express bartender-training class at Barmasters Training Academy (a $125 value). Classes are offered Saturday: 9 a.m.–12 p.m., 1 p.m.–4 p.m., and 5 p.m.–8 p.m.
Barmasters' mixed-drink maestros impart their knowledge of mixology and drink etiquette to students during express three-hour cram sessions that equip attendees with basic drink-slinging skills. Raw recruits and seasoned shakers alike gather to hone their expertise in all manner of potent potions, ranging from beer and wine to today's popular drink recipes. Teacher-tenders review the finer points of bar professionalism, such as how to recommend drinks or deal with unruly ice cubes, imparting tending tips and tricks that translate to both neighborhood dives and crowded clubs. Upon completing the course, each student receives a reference handbook which details the covered information in print, as well as a certificate of achievement that can be hung proudly on a wall or proudly folded into an emergency coaster.
