Barry's Bar and Grill
Since 1959, Barry's Bar and Grill has been an icon not just in Lincoln but around the country. There's no other way to explain the fact that MTV held Real World casting calls there in the early aughts or the fact that iconic Oklahoma football coach Barry Switzer claimed, wishfully, that the bar was named after him—even though the bar was thousands of miles from his home state.
Switzer's yearning to be part of Barry's legacy is understandable. It's a stellar sports bar. Clients watch games on its state-of-the-art TVs, but they also, often, see Lincoln sports heroes in the house. Over the years, the bar has attracted basketball coach Danny Nee, who received a standing ovation, and football coach Frank Solich, a fan of the chili. The food is all similarly Solich-worthy, and the drinks include a beloved blood mary made with house-infused vodka. On warm days, visitors can enjoy their meals on a rooftop porch with views of Memorial Stadium and occasional Nebraska-shaped clouds.
