I had a Mommy and son date with my year old. As a huge basketball fan, he loved it. There is a big part under construction. So we will be back when the renovation is complete

What You'll Get

In 1891, James Naismith mounted two peach baskets on opposite walls of a gym, inventing the rudimentary version of what we know today as “shelving.” Take your basketball off this grand innovation with today’s Groupon: for $17, you get admission for two to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (up to a $34 value).

Showcasing more than 100 years of basketball history, the hallowed halls of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame honor the coaches, players, referees, and other individuals who have contributed to the game through their illustrious achievements. Silently peruse the shrines of all 313 Hall of Famers, stopping to pay homage and compare shoe sizes with such legends as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bob Cousy, and Magic Johnson or three-man-weaving through displays of recent inductees Dennis Rodman and Chris Mullin. The facility covers 40,000 square feet on the Connecticut riverfront, housing more than 70 interactive exhibits with audio and video commentary, special one-time-only exhibits, and a full-size Center Court where guests can perfect their sky-hook, participate in free clinics hosted by players, or set up a parking cone dream team for practice against a 2-3 zone. The Hall also hosts a busy calendar of upcoming events, including discussions, appearances, and story times with Hall of Fame grandmothers.

About Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame

Celebrating more than 100 years of basketball history, the halls and exhibits of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame honor the players, coaches, referees, and others who helped the game grow to an internationally beloved sport. There are shrines dedicated to more than 300 Hall of Famers, and the 40,000-square-foot basketball megaplex also houses more than 70 interactive exhibits with audio and video components, limited-run tributes to standout teams and players, and special events. The Hall of Fame provides an outlet for freshly inspired visitors to emulate the giants of the sport: a full-size center court, where they can practice alley-oops and half-court slam dunks or attend clinics taught by players and coaches. On the way back to the car, many guests pause for a photograph next to the towering silver sphere that punctuates the buildings' exterior.

Named for James A. Naismith, the inventor of the sport, the Hall of Fame stands just "a midrange jump shot" from the site of the original game. Played on December 21, 1891, the first contest tallied a final score of one basket to zero, prompting Dr. Naismith to remove the bee's nests from the backboards.
