What You'll Get
Without jewelry, pearls would be nothing but oyster gallstones and treasure chests would contain nothing but dirty back issues of The Economist. Embrace the power of bling with today's Groupon: for $17, you get admission to a Stringing Basics beading class at Baton Rouge Bead Company (a $35 value).
Baton Rouge Bead Company connects customers with the materials and guidance necessary to discover their inner artisans during small, intimate beading classes. Taught exclusively on Saturday mornings by well-schooled bauble buffs, the Stringing Basics classes include all the materials necessary to construct an original necklace, bracelet, and pair of earrings to take home. Reservations fill each session with a maximum of 10 aspiring adornment makers who gather around a single table for lessons in color theory, clasping, and choosing non-offensive stones. Students may draw from the shop’s bank of designs and combinations or string freely to create jewelry that represents a lifelong struggle to overcome patterns.
Scores of original designs bedeck the cozy shop, as well as a plethora of raw beading materials, including precious metals, wood, glass, and crystals. On the day of the beading class, Groupon holders also receive 20% off all retail supplies to aid in domestic jewelry generation and planting their own bead trees.
