Q:

Does the passenger need to go away for the ground instruction portion, or can they sit in (and if so, is there an extra fee to do so)?

A:

The passenger can stay for the ground at no additional cost.

Q:

Can I verify that one lesson, if I pay the extra $60, allows for both myself and another friend to have what I believe is a 30 minute at the wheel pilot experience. Also, if I want two lessons, do I purchase two? Is the second lesson sort of repeat of the first lesson or does this forward me along some way should I decide to take lessons? There is a mention of a price higher than $400 for two lessons by one person.

Craig K.  asked on  Sep 22, 2012

A:

Yes $60 the day you fly allows both people to fly for 1/2 hour each. The two lessons package has 1 hour flights instead of 45 mins for the single lesson.

Q:

HI, for the 2-lesson option, are the 2 lessons different? Thanks.

Ed Y.  asked on  Sep 19, 2012

A:

The first two lessons a pilot takes usually cover the 4 fundamental flight maneuvers: straight and level, turns, climbs, and descents. So they would be similar in content, but people perform better on the 2nd lesson.

Q:

Hi, just to confirm, I am a Non-US citizen but I am interested in the single lesson. I will not need TSA approval correct? I would also like to bring a friend for the 1 hour trip (30 min each) for the extra $60. Should I buy the single lesson and pay the extra $60 when I show up on the day of the flight? Thanks.

Jeffrey P.  asked on  Sep 19, 2012

A:

You do not need to be a US citizen or get TSA approval for a single lesson. You can pay for option add ons like the pilot swap or bay tour the day you fly.

Q:

Hi, Is there an extra fee to bring a passenger/friend along for the lesson? JO

Jose O.  asked on  Sep 19, 2012

Hi, my name is Darryl Kalthof and I am the owner Bay Area Flying Lessons. I would like to answer a question asked by a Groupon customer, and provide a few other details on the lessons as well: You can bring a friend on both the 1 or 2 lesson package. While the weight of the basic deal is limited to 380 lbs for both people it is still possible for to fly if your combined weight is over 380 lbs. You would need to let me now at the time of scheduling that you want a more powerful plane (that can carry up to 500 lbs combined weight), and then pay $40 more the day of your flight. Those who buy the single lesson can pay $60 more that day of the flight and extend the aircraft rental from 45 minutes to 1 hour, which will allow enough time to land at another airport switch pilot’s and take off again so both pilots can get a ½ hour at the controls. Those who buy the single lesson can fly a “bay tour” over downtown SF for $80 more the day of the flight. This extends the rental to 1.1 hours. You can also choose both the pilot swap with the bay tour for $120 and this will give 1.3 rental hours. The bay tour option is weather dependant as SF sometimes experiences a low cloud layer. The introductory lessons are available 7 days a week. Weekend times are 12 pm and 230 pm. Weekday times are 830 am, 1130 am, and 230 pm. I can start to schedule flights the day after the deal closes and Groupon sends me a final list of purchasers. Then you would email me to schedule. I do have 2 partners helping me give these flights. All of us have been flying for over 15-20 years and have given many thousands of hours of flight instruction. If you would like to ask me any other questions please ask here, email me at d.kalthof@sbcglobal.net or call me at 510-299-3940.
