Birds have the ability to fly because of their wings, their powerful propulsion system, and their FAA-approved built-in bomber jacket. Strap on a temporary wing waist and defy land-locked anatomy with today's Groupon: for $85, you get an introductory hang-gliding lesson with Bay Area Hang Gliding, located in Santa Clara (a $160 value). Each class begins at 8 a.m. and lasts about four hours. Lessons take place at grassy training hills in Milpitas or Hollister, depending on weather.
With the introductory hang-gliding lesson, Bay Area Hang Gliding's certified instructors teach a small group of prospective flyers how to set up the glider, how to handle the flight kite, and how to safely respond in emergency situations. During the class, students will practice their gravity-defying skills during simulated flights and should have the opportunity for short practice flights off the training hill and also to engage in quick wing-wrestling contests with an airborne sparrows. All equipment is provided, but Bay Area Hang Gliding recommends wearing an old pair of jeans and good running shoes.
Seven Yelpers give Bay Area Hang Gliding a perfect five stars:
