After 100 years in Boston, one of the oldest and most prestigious sporting events in America—the Bay Colony Dog Show—is barking up a new tree. Today’s deal gets you access into the inaugural show at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island, about an hour Metro or road trip from downtown Boston. The train stop is a short walk from the center or parking is $10 for drivers. Your Groupon gets you one admission to the Bay Colony Dog Show for $6 ($12 value). That’s even cheaper than the kid’s price ($7), so pick up some extra Groupons for your little ones. While adults will appreciate the time and effort owners put into prepping prestigious canines to preen perfectly, kids will appreciate the puppies.
You can only use your tickets on Thursday, December 3, or Friday, December 4. These dates will be less crowded, making them ideal for families with little ones, or hardcore enthusiasts who prefer dog watching to people watching. The show starts at 8 a.m. with the Best of Breed and concludes somewhere between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. (depending on the number of dogs shown) with the Best in Show. Every day is its own championship, meaning you don’t need to be there for the entire weekend to catch the final winners, as each day stands on its own four legs. Additional activities, such as shopping for holiday dogs and watching backstage grooming, add human interest.
