The Basics of Paddleboarding class starts with a land session explaining different board and paddle options, covering aspects of regulations and safety and teaching 6 strokes for power, efficiency and control. Guests then take to the water to practice on calm Irondequoit Creek while also receiving an additional one-hour rental voucher for future use. The classes take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, June through September.
The guided Back-to-Nature tour starts with a brief land session to cover paddling basics the after, participants can choose single kayaks, tandem kayaks or canoes. The group then takes off on a leisurely tour of Rochester’s “Secret Wilderness”, an amazing wetland resembling the Adirondack and Canadian wildernesses. The guide may point out the area’s resident swans (Penny and Cobbie) and this year’s brood of cygnets, beavers, muskrats, redwing blackbirds, great blue herons, ospreys and eagles. Tours are conducted on Saturdays and some Sundays, mid-May through October.
