Getting out of the house is often hampered by the fact that most houses are located inside a bigger and fancier house. Step outside of the house outside of your house with today's Groupon for admission to the schooner A.J. Meerwald operated by the Bayshore Discovery Project in Cape May. All ships depart from Utsch's Marina, and Groupons can be redeemed for trips through Thursday, September 1. Choose from the following options:
- For $10, you get one admission for children 12 and under for a 10 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. sail (up to a $20 value).
- For $11, you get one admission for children 12 and under for a 5 p.m. sail (a $22 value).
- For $20, you get one adult admission for a 10 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. sail (up to a $40 value).
- For $23, you get one adult admission for a 5 p.m. sail (a $45 value).
Children under the age of 3 sail for free, but they must have a ticket and should be mentioned when making a reservation.
On the National Register of Historic Places, the A.J. Meerwald slices through the time and waves while guiding interactive adventures across the glimmering Delaware Bay. New Jersey's official tall ship boasts two towering masts above a traditional Dorchester oak hull, built in 1928 as a commercial vessel but at one time repurposed as a coast-guard fireboat. Visiting seafarers delve into the schooner's history while they help the crew hoist sails, haul lines, and braid their beards with colored salt crystals during the 2.5-hour public expedition. Captains have scheduled themed programs throughout their stay in Cape May, trawling up some of the bay's residents during Marine Critters Sail or teaching how to securely tie up rigging or escapists on the Nautical Knots Sail. Adults must accompany sea-pups aged 12 and under on voyages and are welcome to pack beverages to toast a glorious sunset on evening cruises and snacks to feed the team of sea horses pulling the ship.
