What You'll Get
Without jewelry, pearls would be nothing but oyster gallstones and treasure chests would contain nothing but dirty back issues of the Economist. Embrace the power of bling with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of jewelry-making classes at Amy's Beads in Plantation. For classes costing less than $30, Groupon customers may apply the remaining value toward beads, supplies, tools, or another class.
Proprietor Amy Dolloff shares her nearly 30 years of experience with jewelry enthusiasts of all skill levels at Amy's Beads, a retail store and workshop full of colorful spheres, crystals, and tools. Though there is no set schedule, Amy holds classes daily depending on requests, offering both private ($25 per hour) and small-group tutorials, which she limits to five students. During the 90-minute beginning-beading class ($20), students learn to crimp, make eye loops, and tongue-twisters, creating one-of-a-kind bracelets and earrings. Lengthier adornment lessons include the three-hour German knotting ($35), which begets multistrand pretzel necklaces, as well as the session on pearl and Swarovski crystal chokers ($40). Because some courses involve advanced techniques and, like partaking in a pie-eating contest, require prior experience, prospective pupils should consult the class descriptions for prerequisites.
