The front desk reception and staff were very helpful and nice. They were redoing one of the exhibits so they gave us free passes to come back again within a year. It's a beautiful place and the surrounding buildings and park across the street are also well worth a look. Great trip! Will visit again.

Love this place - I've gone back here several times for different exhibits. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they show some awesome and varied stuff (most recently was a kinetic sculpture series) and they have a cute little gift shop where you can get prints, games, jewelry, etc. Absolutely worth the visit!!

What You'll Get

If the eyes are the window to the soul, modern art is the squeegee that wipes away the rain spots and dried bug bits of everyday life. Clean up your heart's home with today's Groupon: for $8, you get two general-admission tickets to Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte (a $16 value). Children 10 and under are admitted free.

The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art's forest of paintings and sculptures grew from the seeds of the Bechtler family's personal collection, amassed over several decades and donated to the city of Charlotte. The Bechtlers' connections to the art world put them in close proximity to influential 20th-century artists such as Andy Warhol, who painted the family's portrait, and key figures from the abstractionist School of Paris, who watered the family's plants while they were on vacation. The museum is currently exhibiting Niki de Saint Phalle: Creation of a New Mythology, showcasing de Saint Phalle's kaleidoscopic etchings and sculptures of mirrors, painted polyester, and colored stones, some of which incorporate tiny moving parts. Outside, the exuberant, brightly colored skull of her sculpture La Cabeza Ou Tête de Mort (Grande) boasts an undefeated staring-contest record against museum visitors and staff.

Terra cotta cloaks the soaring modernist forms of Bechtler Museum's physical form, designed by internationally renowned architect Mario Botta. Inside, a lofty glass atrium and museum café leave the interior awash in ample natural light and casual sandwich fare, respectively.
