Benson's Ice Cream

Today, it's a popular spot between spring and October, where sweet-toothed kids and grownups alike flock to creamy treats. But in 1932, Benson's Ice Cream was a last-minute add-on for a little farm stand. Katherine Perley knew that a few sundae glasses and scoops would whet the appetites of passersby, making them more likely to stop and browse her selection of goods. However, she didn't anticipate that the side business would become her legacy.

Though the farm stand is long gone, the ice cream stand still flourishes to rave reviews, and is now managed by Katherine's great-granddaughter Tina. Its flavors include cookie dough, mint chip, and ginger, along with Fresh Native options made with fresh fruit from local farms that have run out of stables for their strawberries. The old-fashioned stand welcomes visitors to three ordering windows beneath a blue awning, which serves as a beacon for anyone in need of a homemade, frosty dessert.
