Unfortunately, we didn't have time to tour the entire winery. However, I know I'll be back because of the courtesy and friendliness of the staff. Not to mention that the wine is excellent!

What You'll Get

Wines, like a comfortable T-shirt or a hard candy left to ripen under the couch, only get better with age. Taste the passing of time with today's Groupon: for $30, you get the Taste of Beringer tour for two at Beringer Vineyards in St. Helena (a $60 value).

Opening its hallowed, grape-infused halls in 1876, Beringer Vineyards boasts a storied history buoyed by a rich register of fine wines. During the tour and wine tasting for two, couples, connoisseurs, and career-regretting raisins sample four pours from the Private Reserve collection, highlighted by the chardonnay and the cabernet sauvignon. A blend of grapes reared and refined by the stern confines and fermentation lectures of French Nevers oak, the 2007 cabernet holds an outstanding grade of 93 from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar. Wines get swirled, sniffed, and slurped amid the horizon of linear vineyards and ornately manicured gardens that pepper Beringer's property. The grounds also feature architectural highlights such as the Rhine House, a 125-year-old homestead and prime example of Victorian architecture, teeming with stained-glass windows, gables, turrets, and the ghosts of frock coats past.

Reviews

TripAdvisors give Beringer Vineyards an average of 4.5 owl-eyes. More than 120 Yelpers give it a four-star average.

  • The staff is consistently very friendly and helpful - telling us about the various regions where each varietal is grown and answering our questions about the wine-making process. – cave7492, TripAdvisor
  • Definitely worth a visit to try their enormous wine variety. Unlike other vineyards, no gimmicks, just what good wine tasting experience should be. – Will C., Yelp, 8/8/10
