About Berkeley Cuong Nhu Karate
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
We offer fitness, confidence, challenge and achievement, stress relief, self defense, an interesting and varied workout—all through training in Cuong Nhu Karate.
Cuong Nhu is a well-rounded martial art style that blends a variety of techniques and approaches. Our style—and our dojo—welcomes all kinds of students. We value courtesy and respect; we think competition with oneself is more important than dominance over others. We know how to hit the balance between serious and fun.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
From the day I began in martial arts, I had a real passion for it. I loved mastering the physical skills—it was satisfying. I loved the discpline of it. It kept me fit; it cleared my mind. I made great friends. I loved everything about it and couldn’t imagine why everyone else wouldn’t love it too—so I wanted to share it with as many people as possible.
What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing all the many ways people change and grow as they train and meet their goals.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
I’m proud of this one: “I became confident enough through your classes that I started my own business.” This one made me laugh: “I figured I’d get a good workout, but I had no idea how much joy I would feel hitting the punching bags!”
