About Bierleichen

Bierleichen means "beer corpses" in German, so it's a fitting name for Ridgewood's heavy-metal, German-style beer hall. Bierleichen's name isn't the only thing drawing visitors' attention, though. Read on to see what others have to say about Bierleichen's ode to the more macabre (and metal) side of beer fandom:

  • "Upon entering through the intimidating heavy black doors (which used to function as church doors, ironically enough) and into the booming echoed sound of Marilyn Manson, you might have very well opened Pandora’s Box into a world of corpse paintings, questionable animal skeletons and grungy industrial-modern décor." – Bushwick Daily

  • "The bar has a lot of what you might find at any German beer garden: beer boots (1.5-liter ones and 2-liter monsters for the crazies out there), foosball tables, pretzels, and a Hofbrauhaus flag. But there are some surprises. The decor is a little darker than most, the soundtrack is decidedly lacking in accordions, and the presence of sizable bones nods to the metal theme." – Bedford + Bowery

  • "The bar and eatery's goal is to incorporate as many Deutsche elements as possible. The menu offers a standard array of pub fare like sausages (including either vegetarian or vegan selections), house-made pretzels, and Sauerbraten (a traditional marinated pot roast). . . Seven out of the ten draft lines will be dedicated to German brews, including a few standard and some lesser-known offerings." – Village Voice
