Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

Would this be a class for beginners, with little to no gun experience?

Karen D.  asked on  Nov 12, 2012

A:

The classroom instruction we give you is very valuable, especially for beginners, but there is no hands-on training with a CHL class. There is a 50 round shooting test that you must pass with this class, so you should be somewhat familiar with shooting before you have to take a test given by the state of Texas. I would highly recommend taking our Beginner Handgun Training course to get you comfortable handling and shooting your gun, and we take you through a mock CHL shooting test if you like so you can be sure that you will pass when you go for your CHL.

Q:

What do I need to do to get a concealed weapon license?

Diana W.  asked on  Nov 12, 2012

A:

This is the 10 hour certification class that is required by the State of Texas to obtain your CHL, which includes a written test and 50 round shooting test. There are a few more steps that you need to take on your own to complete the process like filing paperwork, fingerprinting, photo I.D., etc. Go to the Texas Department of Public Safety website and the forms along with all the information you need are right here, here is a link to the FAQ page which is very helpful: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/RSD/CHL/faqs/index.htm

Is this course appropriate for someone who has never shot a gun before, or someone who is familiar with guns and just needs to get the actual license?

Q:

Does this class work for a CHL renewal?

Sam B.  asked on  Nov 9, 2012

A:

Hi Sam! This Groupon is valid for the options shown. To learn about other services and upgrades that this vendor offers, please reach out to your desired location directly.

Jake S.  from  Groupon  replied on  Nov 10, 2012

A:

Yes, you can use this for your CHL renewal. You are required to attend a 4 hour class and take your shooting test for a renewal license. We normally have a morning classroom session and then go to the range for the shooting test, and then go back to the classroom for those who are getting their CHL for the first time and need the full 10 hour class. Everyone who is there for the renewal will be done for the day after the shooting test. I hope this helps!

Q:

I would like to find a class that introduces my wife to how to use a gun properly. Whould you recommend the CHL class to introduce someone to shooting and home defense?

Matt C.  asked on  Nov 13, 2012

A:

The CHL classroom instruction is very informative, and we cover all aspects of safety, handling, carrying, and shooting your handgun. We also teach you various ways to properly to defend and protect yourself and your home using a gun. However, I would strongly recommend taking a Beginner Handgun/Defensive Handgun training course with us to get real hands-on training and actually get to shoot and drill. This class is offered in 2 & 4-hour sessions.. The CHL class is full of great information, but the training class is the real deal!

Rhett C.  asked on  Nov 9, 2012

A:

Hello Rhett! The courses do include the CHL. You can view the details of the course here.

Q:

Hi, I bought this mainly for my wife to get her CHL (I already have mine) and to get the defensive handgun training. Would it be possible for my son to attend the CHL portion with my wife and me take the defensive handgun portion? My wife would attend both on the other package. Thanks, Keith

Keith B.  asked on  Nov 10, 2012

A:

Hi Keith! As the Fine Print states, Groupon customers must be 21 or older with valid ID or 18 or older if currently serving in or honorably discharged from the military.
To discuss individual specific questions, please reach out to your desired location directly.

Jake S.  from  Groupon  replied on  Nov 10, 2012

A:

Hey Keith, I believe we spoke a couple days ago. That would be totally fine for you to do the Defensive Handgun Course and your son to take the CHL. You can schedule the CHL class here on the Groupon calendar scheduler, but please contact me directly when your ready to schedule your training course.

Q:

How much time would we have on the gun range?

Joy S.  asked on  Nov 12, 2012

A:

If you are referring to the "Range Time Included" for your CHL class, then that is for the 50 round shooting test that goes along with the 10 hour CHL class. Additional range time can be made by appointment through Big Boar Tactical and normal range fees do apply.

Q:

If I buy the one for two do both have to take the course at the same time or can one person take the course and the other person take another time? Thank you.

Sherilyn T.  asked on  Nov 12, 2012

A:

Hi, Sherilyn. No problem at all, just contact Big Boar Tactical directly and let me know when each of you will be attending the class. We will redeem your Groupon voucher with the first class and we have it on record that the person who takes the 2nd class will have already paid. Maybe make a copy of your voucher and write us a reminder note on it and send it with the person who takes the 2nd class. Our contact info is on the home page here or our website is: http://bigboartactical.com/
