What You'll Get
With the festive Carnival as its colorful backdrop, the Restoration Era comedy The Rover tells the story of two sisters -- Florinda, betrothed to a rich merchant she doesn't love, and Hellena, a spirited young woman bound for a nunnery. Determined to experience life and love, they escape to Naples whereupon they encounter the dashing Belville and his band of rambunctious exiles. Full of love triangles, misunderstandings and political satire, this raucous sex comedy was penned in 1677 by England's first professional female playwright, Aphra Behn, during the decadent reign of King Charles II. Catch The Rover on the stage of Sacramento's Big Idea Theatre.
