Welcome to Groupon, Boise! For our inaugural deal, $5 gets you $10 worth of burgers and more at Big Juds, located at 1289 Protest Rd.. Since this is everyone's first Groupon, allow us to briefly explain how it works.
How Groupon Works
Groupon is a combination of the words group and coupon. Each day, we offer an unbeatable deal on the best of Boise: restaurants, spas, sporting events, theater, and more. By promising businesses a minimum number of customers, we get discounts you won't find anywhere else. We call it "collective buying power."
If you want to get the deal, just click BUY before the offer ends at midnight. If the minimum number of people (20 for today's deal) sign up by the end of the day, you'll be emailed a gift certificate the next morning. You can print your Groupons, or redeem them with our iPhone app. Use them whenever you want until the deal expires—today's expires in six months. If not enough people join, no one gets the deal (and you won't be charged), so invite your friends to make sure you get the discount!
Today's Deal
Everything gets better as it gets bigger, including top hats, babies, and cell phones circa 1994. Turn your modest appetite into an appetitanic with today's Groupon: for $5, you can enjoy $10 worth of burgers, sides, fries, and more at Big Juds, a Boise State University staple and home to the one-pound patty phenomenon, the Big Jud. The hefty hamburger is so macroscopic, it recently caught the hungry eye of the Travel Channel's Man v. Food. This Groupon is good for dine-in only.
Though the stars may not align you with the life-altering Big Jud Special—a one-pound patty blanketed in cheddar, ketchup, mayo, mustard, pickle, onion, tomato, and lettuce, served with fries, an optional infant for scale comparison, and a tall thirst quencher ($14.99 for a regular, $17.99 for a double)—you'll still be able to savor the grilled goodness in a smaller package. A variety of flavorful creations range from the reuben burger (pastrami, swiss, and all the basic fixins, $5.49 for a regular, $6.99 for a double) to the next-smallest nesting doll in the Big Jud collection, the classic double cheeseburger ($5.99). Other non-gargantuan, non-red-meat options include the chicken sandwich ($4.49 for a single, $5.99 for a double), a halibut dinner basket dressed with fries ($7.99), and for the victory lap, a waffle cone of ice cream ($2.99 for a single, $3.99 for a double).
With plenty of tasty meats and fresh, hand-cut fries, Big Juds is the place to celebrate summer, consumption-based achievements, and anniversaries with one Big Jud Special and two straws. If a date night seems too exclusive, bring a few fellow enthusiasts and use up to two Groupons for tables of four or more.
Reviews
Big Juds was featured on the Travel Channel's Man v. Food, and the Big Jud Special was named Best Burger in Idaho by the Food Network. The Idaho Statesman also praises Big Juds. Nine Yelpers give the eatery a 4.5-star average, three Citysearchers give it an average of five, and 71% of more than 125 Urbanspooners recommend it:
- …I can say that the meat on the more sanely sized cheeseburger … was beefy, and its overall flavor reminiscent of the honest, unpretentious mom-and-pop joints of my pre-chain youth. – Guy Hand, Idaho Statesman
- What can I say, this is my absolute favorite place for a burger. – Ben M., Yelp
- Best burger in the country. I have been to the two top burger joints in the country, rated by food network, and Jud's beats them both. – luvfood3, Citysearch

About Big Juds
Celebrating 20 years at their Boise location and 1 year at their Meridian location, there are many potential explanations for the popularity of the specialty burgers at Big Jud's! It could be their inventive combinations of toppings such as green chili peppers, blue cheese, and onion rings. Or maybe it could be their gargantuan size. Adam Richman of the Travel Channel’s Man v. Food hit the nail on the head when he described the Double Big Jud burger as "so huge, it has its own gravitational pull." Adam’s rendition of the plate-sized, two-patty burger kept his frightened table from fleeing the scene with an anchor of bacon, mushrooms, and swiss and blue-cheese toppings. Today, the Man Versus Food burger stands in the menu as a testament to his courage to eat the entire thing himself.
Those who balk at the prospect of conquering a Big Jud burger alone can split a party-size combo with friends, or simply request one of the menu’s 12 smaller burgers. Though they owe their reputation to their beefy meals, Big Jud's chefs also cook chicken sandwiches and famously gargantuan fresh-cut fries, which Boise Weekly deemed "potato-based Lincoln Logs." For dessert, ice cream, milkshakes, and malts complete the restaurant’s old-fashioned-diner vibe.
