It was pretty cool to walk into the mine, but kinda glad we didn’t pay full price. The Groupon was a good deal

Our guide was awesome. The age range of our group was 10-71 years old and we all had a great time. We even went home with some flicks of gold that we panned from the stream ourselves. Definitely worth a visit.

We used the 4hr panning Groupon and we had a great time. Three generations and we all enjoyed our time there. We not only went away with great memories and gold we also collected some awesome rocks 😃 Our guide Leonard was awesome, so informative and loved sharing his knowledge with my grandsons.

Knowledgeable staff. Groupon was a great deal. Coupons also in free local magazine for gift shop and restaurant. Great tour for adults and kids. Panning for gold is harder than it looks.

About Big Thunder Gold Mine

Big Thunder Gold Mine transports modern-day folks back to a time of prospectors, enterprising German immigrants, and gold rushes. The mine, originally named the Gold Hill Lode, was discovered by two Germans—W.B. Krupp and J.A. Engle—in 1892. Known for its diversity of rock types, structures, and dazzling minerals, the site made as good a mine in the 19th century as it makes a tourist attraction today. Today, the meticulously maintained spot gives folks a glimpse into a bygone era in American history.
