The bicycle might be the most-best form of transportation: it causes no harm to the environment and allows you to dress like Mad Max. Before the bicycle evolved into a convenient, eco-friendly means of transportation, it went through many awkward phases:

  • Bike with 25 wheels
  • Bike pedaled by child servants
  • Bike propelled by bike oars
  • Bike where you’re not allowed to dress like Mad Max
  • Bike resting on saddle resting on horse

These all look like great ideas on paper, but as Benjamin Franklin once said, “Paper makes a better airplane.” And the bicycle makes the best bike.

Today’s Groupon gets you off your feet and onto a two-wheeler to soak in the beautiful sights of our nation’s capital. Rent a Trek 7100 Comfort Hybrid Bike from Bike and Roll for a whole day for just $17 (normally $35). Pick up your bike either downtown at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave. NW or in Old Town Alexandria at One Wales Alley. Avoid traffic, cut down on travel time, and feel the breeze: bike riding is one of the best ways to explore the city.

DC is packed with sights. Where to explore is up to you, but Bike and Roll gets you started with some great ideas. Ride around the 40 miles of bike lanes in city streets. Whiz past monuments, memorials, and around the National Mall. Or leave from Alexandria, and ride along the Mount Vernon Trail to Washington’s Estate—home to the region’s largest gumball machine.

Your bike rental includes the works: a helmet, U-lock, bike rack, flat kit, city map, and, of course, a Trek 7100 Comfort Hybrid bicycle. The Trek 7100 is built for concrete: the perfect marriage of toughness and efficiency, peppered with sass and doused with spunk. Riding on a comfort bike is a great way for a newcomer to see DC or for a native to take a moment to appreciate the city’s beauty. Go on an introspective joy ride or take the whole crew along for a day of biking fun.

Bike and Roll DC

Run by three generations of DC locals, Bike and Roll DC sends Segway riders and pedalers into the nation's modern and historical capitol. Sightseers participating in guided tours are spirited through the District's many historic sights. Local story-tellers regale tour-goers with tales about the Capitol Building, Lincoln Memorial, the White House, and Mount Vernon, the home where George Washington lived after hatching from the egg incubated in the Statue of Liberty's torch.

Outside of tours and their ever-popular bike rentals, Bike and Roll DC's professional mechanics also repair bikes, including fixing flat tires and performing regular tune-ups. They can even loan patrons a new Trek comfort hybrid bike to use while their bike is in the shop.
