Bikram Yoga Forest Hill
With the helpful and assertive encouragement of owner Janice Guertin and her team of instructors, Bikram Yoga Forest Hill's students can learn to safely challenge their mental and physical limitations while improving their overall wellbeing. The studio's Bikram yoga classes consist of two mindful breathing exercises as well as 26 standing, seated, and twisting stretches, each of which works in concert to systematically strengthen muscle groups throughout the body while pushing fresh, oxygenated blood to major organ systems.
Although this practice is open to attendees of all skill and fitness levels, the instructors don't hide the fact that it's meant to be challenging. Radiant heating panels in the ceiling and geothermal ducts in the floor keep the practice space at a balmy 40 degrees Celsius throughout each 90-minute class, which helps to loosen taut muscles and facilitates deeper, safer stretches. Over time, students can develop the stamina, balance, and flexibility required to maintain each sustained pose, along with the mental fortitude to overcome their perceived limitations, such as, "No, really. My leg just doesn't bend that way."
Though Janice and her staff strive to push their patrons, they also demonstrate their deep compassion for every individual's progress. They help students correct their form and do what they can to maximize everyone's comfort. As an example, the studio's air-exchange system constantly brings in fresh oxygen from outside while pushing stale air out of the practice space.
