An eco-friendly spa treatment brings humans into soothing harmony with nature, like duetting with birds or performing "Ring of Fire" in an actual volcano. Sing out sustainability with today's Groupon: for $39, you get a pedicure at Bioéthique Certified Organic (an $85 value).
Bioéthique Certified Organic pampers patrons from kneecap to toe tip with luxurious pedicures using organic, earth-friendly products. During the one-hour, chemical-free pedicure, a sympathetic spa technician introduces metatarsals to talented fingertips, which erase tension and mend threadbare toe puppets under the diffuse light of a crystal chandelier. Knees, calves, ankles, feet, and toes revel in a bounty of soothing services, including a gentle hot-stone massage, a skin-smoothing exfoliation, and the application of a rehydrating mask to leave stems soft and silky. Toenails, meanwhile, receive a trimming and buffing before nail techs decorate them using a classic French white pencil or a yellow no. 2 pencil to achieve a standardized-test look.
The spa’s pure-white decor echoes the simplicity of the spa owners’ pledge to create a chemical- and scent-free space and their fondness for marshmallows. Bioéthique’s line of spa products, made of cold-press extra-virgin plant oils and primary plant extracts, are vegan-friendly and are certified organic by the strict standards of international agricultural organization Nature et Progrès. The spa, located in historic Strathcona, is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday–Saturday.
