Charles Miller’s contemporary dance class, which occurs on Thursdays from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., fuses basic techniques of jazz, ballet, modern, and other disciplines, all while applying them to choreography and the basics of contemporary dance. No experience is needed, and classes can help improve posture, add strength and flexibility, and strengthen performance skills.
Birds Eye View Circus
Erin Garber-Pearson founded Birds Eye View Circus in 2012 to share her passion for aerial silks with curious students in classes that blend fitness and fun. Erin, who traveled the country as a silks and partner acrobatics performer, specializes in movements using aerial silks, fire-eating and -breathing, and stilt dancing. A team of six instructors from places such as Toledo, Detroit, and Ann Arbor share their knowledge in aerial silks, trapeze, aerial hoop, partner acrobatics, tumbling, and tightwire dancing.
Inside the studios, swathes of fabric descend from the ceilings, sometimes all the way to the floor or otherwise holding large hoops aloft. Padded floors, none-to-distant from where practitioners hang, give students of all ages the confidence to try new moves and practice routines during open gym hours. Students can even participate in circus shows, which are held annually to showcase talent and highlight performers in full theatrical productions.
