Bistros are remarkable in that they somehow manage to be both fancy and casual at the same time, much like a necktie with Taz on it. Feel gussied up without too much fuss with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of bistro fare at Bistro108 in Loves Park.
Bistro108’s head chef Doug Finch concocts elegant eats using fresh, local ingredients. Snap out of your stoic, week-long Tommy Lee Jones impression before snapping into appetizers such as mozzarella cheese sticks, cylindrical bursts of house-smoked mozzarella ($7), or the bruschetta, toasted baguettes piled with fresh, diced tomatoes and red onion ($5).
Hand-cut USDA-choice New York–strip steaks ($12 for an 8 oz.) are available in eight preparations, including the traditional steak au poivre, which finds it pan-seared and smothered with a cognac-peppercorn reduction, or the steak frite, which finds it grilled to the carnivore’s request and served alongside a golden bed of frites. Chicken entrees feature delectable preparations, including a pesto-flecked rigatoni ($14) or a Cajun tortellini ($14). Like the capital of Iowa, the dessert list changes seasonally.
