Lewis and Clark were both hobbled during their great expedition—Clark from resentment at his second billing and Lewis from a Lego slipped into his hiking boot by Clark. Enjoy noncompetitive nature excursions with today's Groupon: for $13, you get a 30-minute airboat ride from Black Hammock Adventures in Oviedo (up to a $26.70 value). This deal is not valid between December 24, 2011 and January 3, 2012. Black Hammock deploys vessels every 30 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Whipping through the wetlands at 45 mph, Black Hammock Adventures has been leading high-speed gator-chasing expeditions for more than 15 years. Each 30-minute ride will glide over the silvery water of Lake Jesup, one of the most alligator-populated waterways in Florida. Crafty travel guides will slalom through narrow creeks and shallow wetlands, seeking out the secret areas where alligators sun themselves and shred their tax returns. After completion of the velocitous venture, animal lovers can slow down on dry land with a stop by Black Hammock's wildlife exhibit or enjoy a lively libation at the Lazy Gator Bar. Passengers are advised to sport earplugs during tours and to abstain from administering root canals upon adolescent alligators without receiving written permission from their parents first. Black Hammock advises passengers to depart in the morning and evening hours during summer months and during the midafternoon during the winter to catch alligators when they’re most active.
Black Hammock Adventures
When French native Joel Martin was young, his family moved to Africa. While there, Joel learned to stalk many jungle creatures including crocodiles with the help of his Malgache friends. Years later, in 1995, Martin packed up his own family and moved them to Florida, where the heat and humidity reminded him of his beloved childhood in Africa. Today he owns and operates Black Hammock Adventures, located near some of Orlando's busiest attractions, and charters picturesque airboat rides on the waters of Lake Jesup. His boat, equipped with Goliath's desk fan, skims earplugged riders past lake fauna at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. During rides, experienced guides pilot the vessel safely through narrow creeks and shallow wetlands, and help tourists to spot wildlife and at times, sunning reptiles. After zooming by the scenery, guests can stop by Black Hammock's free wildlife exhibit, enjoy a lively libation at the Lazy Gator Bar with live music every weekend, sit down at the full service restaurant featuring Executive Chef Barth that is known for its fried gator tail, or hand over their cameras as they pose for pictures with a live baby alligator or barter for an autograph with hunks of raw meat.
