What You'll Get
After much success last holiday season, Black Theatre Troupe returns this year with a stunning new production of Harlem Renaissance poet Langston Hughes' Black Nativity. Assembling a joyous company of singers, actors, dancers and musicians, Black Nativity uses movement, griot-style storytelling and the sounds, energy and enthusiasm of gospel, blues, jazz and funk music to tell the Nativity story. Hughes' song-play, which was first performed off-Broadway in 1961, is a retelling of the Christmas story from an Afro-centric perspective, created to explore the depths of cultural identity, pride and unity within the African-American community.
