Blandford Nature Center enthralls visitors with 143 acres of flora- and fauna-filled woods, wetlands, and stroll-friendly trails, coupled with educational classes and history-evoking buildings. Eight walking paths provide visitors with a range of perambulatory possibilities, from easy walks to hilly hikes, allowing solitary immersion in nature or caroling sing-offs with uppity birds. Most of the trails are dog-friendly, enabling families to bring along canines for outdoor frolicking. Authentic 19th-century buildings educate guests about Michigan's frontier days, and the Interpretive Center hosts seasonal exhibits on local wildlife, educating visitors on animal behavior, life cycles, and favorite card games played when humans are out of view. And in the wildlife education center, injured birds of prey, reptiles, and other animals, including Bob the bobcat and Ruby the redtail hawk, return to fighting form.
Saturday events foster family bonding with fun, educational workshops. Upcoming events include an introduction to geocaching, teaching families about GPS-enabled treasure hunting, and an autumn hike, in which participants learn to identify trees based on bark texture, leaf shape, and ability to converse intelligibly with raccoons.
