Experts consider yoga to be the world's most effective stress reliever, putting it just ahead of sleeping on a mattress full of stress balls and reading transcripts of a shaman's chants. Take the popular route to relaxation with today's Groupon: for $15, you get one week of unlimited yoga, dance, and fitness classes at BlossOMing Yoga on Gallatin Avenue.
BlossOMing Yoga founder Colleen Dwyer and her team of certified instructors shepherd students through more than a dozen varieties of muscle-enhancing yoga and fitness classes. Beginning bone flexers can attend the foundations Hatha/flow yoga session to garner a deep understanding of each posture, and yogis of all levels can join therapeutic gentle yoga, where they'll start with breathing and meditation practices before transitioning into light, gentle movements. Radiance yoga begins with a short dancing exercise to loosen the body, then continues with a mix of Hatha and Vinyasa flows to put students in moods as bright as Helios riding in a chariot made of light bulbs. Ballet and Pilates round out the roster of agility and strength-boosting programs.
During yoga classes, instructors lead chants of the eponymous om—a sacred syllable in several Eastern religions—to practice focusing the mind and living in the moment. To accommodate yogis of all skill levels, instructors will adjust postures, making them more or less challenging as needed. The stretching studio offers classes every day of the week and provides mats free of charge so students don't have to fashion them out of spare tires.
