About Blue Island Oyster Bar & Seafood

In the landlocked state of Colorado, it can be hard to find the incredibly fresh seafood east- and west-coasters take for granted. Many Coloradans had longed for a proper oyster bar, but the prospect seemed unlikely until a local restaurateur partnered with Chris Quartuccio, the founder of the Blue Island Oyster Company. One of New York's top seafood distributors, Quartuccio has first dibs on some of the East Coast's freshest oysters and clams, which reach Cherry Creek's Blue Island Oyster Bar the same day they're caught.

In order to accomplish this, Quartuccio told 303 Magazine article that his day begins at 5 a.m. at Long Island's Great South Bay, where he gathers a full shucker's basket worth of oysters. The very same oysters are flown to Blue Island's raw bar in Denver by dinnertime. They're even displayed in similar traditional shucker’s baskets, waiting to be shucked, dolloped with sauce, and slurped down.

Blue Island may specialize in oysters, but under Executive Chef DJ Nagle's direction, it also churns out lobster rolls, steamed mussels, clam chowder, baked sea scallops, new york strips, and stuffies—giant clamshells stuffed with scallop and clam pieces, charred corn, and linguiça sausage. Like its food, the eatery's decor is sea-centric, inspired by the small fishing towns of the north-east.

Meals are complemented by drinks from Blue Island's full bar, featuring craft cocktails, beer, wine, and champagne, which helps explain their inclusion on Zagat's list of Sexiest Restaurants in Denver.
