Without piano duels, musicians would settle disputes through less dignified means, such as copyright litigation and violent bouts of air fisticuffs. Celebrate stately sonic showdowns with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of pub fare and drinks at Blue Moon Dueling Piano Bar & Restaurant in West Des Moines' West Glen Town Center.
As plucky performers tickle ivories and funny bones, Blue Moon's lineup of libations, entrees, and desserts teases taste buds with sweet and savory pub fare. Local and national tune chefs carve juicy cuts of music for hungry ears while foodsmiths craft dishes such as the Big Dipper sandwich, an artisan roll stacked with thinly sliced roast beef, peppers, swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and creamy horseradish sauce ($8.99), and the 16-inch cheeseburger pizza, dappled with ground beef, onions, pickles, and mustard ($15.99). A hot oven eschews grease and grants crispy, baked exteriors to sweet-potato wedges ($7.99) and chicken tenders ($6.99), and the homemade cheesecake, available in turtle or blueberry ($4.99), animates crowds with sugar highs and felt-tip pens.
A speakeasy vibe wafts through Blue Moon's interior, where dashing photos of piano phenoms smolder on a fiery orange wall. As the moon rises and midnight draws near, wily flutes of Allegro Moscato champagne ($7) conspire with cunning goblets of 14 Hands riesling ($6.50) and sneaky pints of Fat Tire beer, daring drinkers to stage interpretive tap dances atop the baby grand.
Blue Moon is closed Sundays and Mondays, and some events carry a cover charge.
