Excellent service and trip...we saw two whales during our trip. We went on a cold, rainy day although it was beautiful!

This is one of the best trips and outings ever! This group is very friendly and great at their job! They have a nice, big steady boat. It's all very professional but relaxed! We followed two very friendly whales for over 3 hours and we were right off the coast. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. INCREDIBLE!

We saw so much sea life ~ hundreds of jellyfish, sea otters, humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions and more! The crew was fantastic! They were very nice, informative to what we were seeing, and attentive to those who became sea-sick. It was the best whale watching trip I have ever been on and I would absolutely reccommend it to others!

What You'll Get

Whale watching requires astute observation, an insatiable desire to commune with nature, and the ability to attract passing leviathans with echolocation catcalls. Whistle at a high-pitched frequency with today’s Groupon: for $23, you get a four-hour whale-watching tour from Blue Ocean Whale Watch in Moss Landing (a $46 value).

The seasoned seafarers at Blue Ocean Whale Watch pursue the grandest, most majestic, and blowholiest creatures of the sea on the High Spirits—a 60-foot, U.S. Coast Guard–certified vessel that can fit up to 49 amateur Ahabs. Helmed by Jim Davis, a captain with 32 years of experience, and moderated by trained naturalist Kate Cummings, the High Spirits tour glides through Monterey Bay’s roaming wildlife year-round.

Passengers can lounge inside the comfy boat or stake a position on the 360-degree-visibility observation deck as gargantuan humpback whales and blue whales backstroke through the summer and fall, killer whales head butt tides in mid-April, and gray whales commandeer the carpool lane from mid-January to mid-March. Sightseers may also glimpse dolphins, sea lions, leatherback sea turtles, and scuba-diving dogs playing poker.

The vessel’s onboard kids' corner, filled with books and toys, endlessly amuses crayon-tracking tykes, and anxious voyeurs can rest easy, as Blue Ocean Whale Watch absolutely guarantees whale sightings or your next trip is free. Guests are encouraged to dress warmly and can purchase snacks on board, bring grub, or forage for crumbs along the bow.

About Blue Ocean Whale Watch

When it comes to size, the blue whale trumps anything that has ever walked, swam, or flown across planet Earth. Stretching roughly 80 feet long, these titanic creatures swim deep below the Pacific Ocean, feeding on thousands of tiny krill at a time—but like all aquatic mammals, they eventually have to come up for air. That's when they meet Blue Ocean Whale Watch.

Aboard a 60-foot sightseeing vessel, naturalist Kate Cummings spouts the aforementioned whale facts and much more. However, it's not until whales breach the surface or jump into the air that passengers truly comprehend their massive size. Even the naturalist herself—who has been on countless voyages—can't help but take a picture each and every trip. Ms. Cummings works alongside Captain Jim Davis, who's navigated the ocean currents and Poseidon's construction zones for more than 30 years.

The two head out in search of blue whales, humpback whales, and other marine life, including dolphins and sea turtles. The stars of the tours change throughout year (during the spring, summer, and fall, humpback whales make their way to Monterey Bay to feed on krill and anchovies), but passengers can always catch views and photos from the upper deck.
