As summer fades, autumn's beauty emanates from the changing hues of a tree's leaves and the gradual reddening of a football coach's face. Revel in the colors of the season with this Groupon.
$45 for an Autumn Zipline Canopy Tour ($89.95 Value)
The foliage of Long Mountain transforms into a colorful cornucopia of autumn-tinged trees, adding another layer of beauty to the exhilarating zipline experience.
The Blue Ridge Canopy Adventure
The Blue Ridge Canopy Adventure’s zipline course connects 15 tree-based platforms on a path through the forests of Long Mountain, creating a nearly one-mile, high-speed thrill ride up to 90 feet in the air. After a ride in a military truck and a short safety and equipment briefing, participants clip onto the first line and begin the canopy trek. Groups of up to six pair up with a duo of friendly guides, who expound upon local ecology and keep an eye on group safety throughout the duration of the trip, ensuring no one gets hurt by strapping the harness to their ears.
By the time they finish, adventurers will have conquered a network of 13 different zip lines, traversed a cable bridge at the top of Dead Man’s Gorge, and taken The Leap of Faith, an 812-foot zipline with a blind landing deck. After exiting the tree line on the final run, Trappers Alley, the course finishes at a deck suspended high above a 40-acre pasture, offering panoramic glimpses of the surrounding terrain.
Blue Ridge Canopy Adventures
Covering 125 acres of mountainside, Blue Ridge Canopy Adventures’ Hell's Hollow Adventure Outpost gives adventure seekers the opportunity to explore Appalachia from high above the ground. After a brief ground session, wherein instructors discuss safety, zipline etiquette, and how to speak Carolina chickadee without an accent, students soar between 12 stations across nearly 6,000 feet of cable. There are bridges and nature walks interspersed along the course, and horseback riding along the area’s old trails may be added as part of the outfit’s adventure packages.
