If the Play-Doh Fun Factory taught the world anything, it's that extruded swoops and twirls are more gratifying when they're actually edible. Demolish a swirly scoop of icy eats with today's deal: for $5, you get $10 worth of ice cream, gelato, and other frozen delicacies at Blue Ridge Ice Creams, a 1,600-square-foot dome of delight located in Winston-Salem.
All Blue Ridge's 13 daily flavors of ice cream are scooped by hand, in order to avoid the lingering metal taste and brain freezes caused by robot servers. Flavors are constantly changing; some favorites include Brandy Alexander, coffee Oreo, cake batter, and dulce de leche. Gelato flavors morph and evolve as well, from tropical lime one day to honey lavender the next. One-scoop servings of ice cream are $2.40, whereas single-shot gelato is $2.80; put a bigger sweet tooth down with a double-barreled cone of ice cream for $3.60 or gelato for $4.20. Pour scrumptiously molten toppers such as caramel and hot fudge over your frigidly solid-state cream or gelato for a $4.25 sundae, or get the biggest bang for your buck with a large sundae for $5.25. One daily sorbet and sherbet flavor is also available, and you can upgrade your delivery device to a waffle cone for $1 extra.
Take some friends to Blue Ridge and have a contest to see who can get the most painful ice-cream headache, or order an obscenely large sundae and strike a fitting pose for this year's holiday cards.
Three Insider Pagers give Blue Ridge Ice Creams an average of three stars:
- I Love, Love their chocolate amaretto ice cream. They would even call me when they made that flavor. If you find a flavor that you love -- they will call you when they are making that flavor. – Carolyn D.
- Blue Ridge Ice Cream is total yum. They have many different flavors that you do not find in other places, and it is all made there in the store. The homemade chocolate sauce used on hot fudge sundaes is divine! – becky k.
